Asbestos Awareness Training in Perth

Face-to-face Asbestos training in Perth helps you avoid the potential health risk of asbestosis and other forms of asbestos-related disease. Asbestos poses a health risk when you inhale tiny fibers from asbestos-containing material (ACM).

Manufacturers stopped using asbestos in building materials over the past few decades, with Australia officially banning the material in 2003. Construction and renovations completed before the ban may include asbestos-containing material.

Asbestos products are divided into two categories based on their friability. Friability describes the likelihood of a solid material to break into smaller pieces.

For example, you may pull old insulation from a pipe without realizing it was made with asbestos. The old material may crumble and flake, distributing small particles that enter your lungs as you breathe. The small particles can cause scarring, which leads to the development of asbestosis. Asbestos exposure may also increase the risk of mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Asbestos products that crumble easily are called “friable.” Non-friable ACM includes material that does not break easily, such as asbestos cement sheets and vinyl floor tiles.

The most hazardous type of asbestos is crocidolite asbestos, which has a blue hue. It was often used in pipe insulation and spray-on coatings. The fibers are thin and easily released into the air when the material is handled. Understanding how to identify crocidolite asbestos and other types of asbestos help protect against exposure.

What to Expect From an Asbestos Awareness Course in Perth?

Our in-person asbestos awareness courses are designed to address the biggest safety concerns of working around asbestos. Here is a closer look at what you can expect from an asbestos awareness training course in Perth:

  • How to identify asbestos-containing materials and products
  • Understanding the properties of asbestos
  • Locating common sources of asbestos in buildings
  • Health risks related to exposure to asbestos

Exposure to asbestos may lead to serious health issues, which are covered in the 10675NAT unit of competency. You learn more about the dangers of asbestos and how to avoid it.

Asbestos was used throughout most of the 20th century, but many people are too young to remember a time when the material was still being used for renovation and construction projects. Our face-to-face training ensures that you know what to look for.

You receive pre-course materials after enrolling, which allows you to start exploring asbestos awareness topics. After successful completion of the course, you are given a statement of attainment to demonstrate your knowledge of asbestos safety procedures.

Who Needs to Obtain an Asbestos Awareness Certificate?

Asbestos certification is a mandatory requirement for anyone likely to encounter asbestos in the workplace. This often includes individuals in the construction industry. Demolition workers may be exposed to asbestos during demolition projects. Construction workers may be exposed to asbestos when working on existing properties.  Or visit our main Asbestos Awareness Training Course page.

Along with the construction industry, an asbestos certificate is needed for workers in other sectors. Tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers often require asbestos safety training. Emergency service workers, air-conditioning installers, and maintenance personnel may also benefit from completing the course. Workers can also discuss the need for training with their elected health and safety representatives (HSRs).

What Is the Legal Requirement for Licensed Asbestos Removal Work?

Licensed asbestos removal work requires an asbestos license. At OHS.com.au, we offer several asbestos removal courses for your professional development:

  • Class A asbestos removal
  • Class B asbestos removal
  • Asbestos supervisor course
  • Asbestos assessor course

The Class A asbestos course in Perth is necessary for the removal of any amount of non-bonded (friable) asbestos. The Class B asbestos course is mandatory for the removal of 10m2 or more of bonded (non-friable) asbestos. Both courses typically take one day to complete. However, you must complete the asbestos awareness course as a prerequisite for either removal course.

The asbestos supervisor course is for workers who need to supervise and implement an asbestos management plan. Asbestos management plans are developed by licensed asbestos assessors. Becoming a licensed assessor requires the completion of the asbestos assessor course.

Cute
Format: Paperback
This was a cute Sapphic romcom set in eureka springs Arkansas. Molly and Robin are so cute together and I love all three characters. The diversity is done very well and I love the tidbits about the town lore and how an old inn could bring these two lovebirds back together after so many years apart.

Cute way to pass the time
Format: Paperback
Thank you to Dial Press Trade Paperback and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel. I thought this was really cute and a fun way to pass the time. I am a fan of Food Network cooking shows so it was a way to see behind the scenes a bit for the reality behind reality TV. The inn itself sounded lovely and seeing Molly and Robin grow apart and then back together was what I wanted from the book. The ending did feel abrupt but for the most part, enjoyable. 3.5 stars.

A roller coaster ride!
Format: Kindle
Such an emotional story but did really enjoy the town this story was based in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Such a peaceful beautiful town. Molly and Robin were married but split up and had lived apart for seven years. They owned the Hummingbird Inn and Molly came back there to stay for a while but realized Robin had moved back in there earlier. I loved the antics that these two played on one another and you could tell they really still loved one another but both had too much baggage. They were going to sell the Inn split the money and get the divorce but then feelings became involved. I received this ARC from Netgalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Heartwarming queer love story
Format: Paperback
I LOVED this book. It’s the most refreshing, queer, lesbian, second chance, finding your way back home story. From almost throwing hands to falling back in love, it was a wonderful journey of reflection in both women and their growth as a couple. It reminds me so much of Columbus ohios gay community and just such a supportive and loving city. My ONE complaint would be that I felt the ending was rushed. It was just like “oh hey I still love you, cancel the sale, done”. I would’ve loved a little more of an ending or even an epilogue. I kinda felt… incomplete at the end which made me sad!

Bed and Breakup
Format: Kindle
Bed and Breakup is a dual POV forced-proximity second chance romance. Estranged wives Molly and Robin both return to the Bed and Breakfast they co-own after seven years apart, each needing to recharge creatively and figure out their next steps. Despite not wanting to cohabitate, they reluctantly agree to work together to refurbish the inn so they can sell it and finally break ties with each other for good. Working in close proximity stirs up memories, the good with the bad, leaving both confused about what next steps to take. This was an enjoyable and well written ARC and I will definitely look for more from this author. This book, though, just wasn’t the right fit for me. I really LOVE second-chance romance, but this book was missing two aspects that draw me to them: I didn’t feel like the reason for the initial breakup was all that forgivable and fully resolved, and usually in second-chance romance you have at least one character working towards the end goal of reconciliation established pretty early on. However, I did love the small town, the many side characters, and the passions Molly and Robin had (artistic and culinary). I would definitely recommend this book even though it wasn’t a perfect fit for me.
